M. VAN ZEELAND’S REPORT
CAREFUL STUDY TO BE GIVEN BY BRITAIN (Received February 2, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, February 1. In answer to a question 4 n the House of Commons on the van Zeeland report, the Prime Minister (Mr Neville Chamberlain) said that the proposals in it raised many complications, financial, economic, and political. These would require careful study, and he could not make any statement until such study was completed. He added that he hoped the proposals would be examined everywhere in the same objective and constructive spirit as had inspired their compilation. The report would be taken as an urgent matter and he agreed with Mr George Lansbury that the next move lay with the French and British Governments.
