CLAIMS FOR NEW AWARD

WELLINGTON, January 25. The claims of the New Zealand Federated Brick. Tile. Pottery, end Clay Workers' Industrial Association of Workers" for a new Dominion award were heard before a Conciliation Council to-day. The principal proposals, with tn«? employers counter proposals in parenthesis, were:—4o-hour week (same); overtime at time and a half for three hours (four hours); thereafter double rates (same); minimum hourly wages —Mangers and moulders 3s (2s 6id): stickers and pipe makers 2s lOd (2s sd); setters and drawers 2s 9d (,2s 4d): burners 2s 9d (2s 3d); all other workers 2s 6d (2s 2£d); under age workers 27s 6d to 82s 6d (15s to 72s 6d); female workers not mentioned <lss to 455); maximum temperature 'of kiln W which workers will work 120 degrees Fahrenheit (130 degrees). Other conditions covered specific work and holidays. To-day's proceeaings were almost entirely in coninutr tee, the questions at issue being wages and holidays, on which no agreement was reached. The council will resume to-morrow morning.
