LARGER GERMAN IMPORTS
PLANS FOR REDUCTION FAIL GREATER DEPENDENCE ON OVERSEAS SUPPLIES (UNITED TRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT.) (Received January 23, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, January 21. The Berlin correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" states that a 30 per cent, increase in imports was the chief feature of Germany's foreign trade in 1937. The first year of General Goering's four-year plan thus failed to produce a decrease in the country's dependence on overseas supplies. In spite of the production campaign launched by the Minister for Agriculture (Herr Darre), food imports increased by 36 per cent. The development of synthetic materials has not prevented imports of raw materials increasing by 27 per cent.
