DOMINION CONFERENCE CONTINUED
The annual Dominion conference of the New Zealand Nurses* Christian Union was continued over the weekend. On Saturday afternoon the members of the conference were tue guests of Sir R. Heaton Rhodes at his home, "Otahuna," Tai Tapu. The guests, who included Sir Hugh and Lady Acland, Dr. Sutherland (India), Miss R. Bridges (School of Nursing, Wellington), and Mr and Mrs Claude Davies, were shown round the grounds by Sir Heaton, and taken to the Rhodes Memorial Church. Sir Heaton explained the many interesting parts of the church, solos were given by Mrs Davies, and an organ recital was .riven by Mr Davies. " On Saturday night the conference visited the Christchurch Public Hospital. They were welcomed by Miss Widdowson, Lady Superintendent at the hospital, and a play, "Courageous Women," was presented by the nurses. Mrs A M Woods (Dunedin), who was trained at St. Thomas's Hospital, the hospital where Florence Nightingale was trained, read a letter which Miss Nightingale wrote to nurses thanking them for books and flowers she had received on her eightieth birthday Best wishes were extended to Miss Phyllis Talbot, who is leaving the Christchurch Hospital to do mission work in the Solomon Islands, festerday 180 nurses and doctors attendee a service conducted by Canon liams in the Christchurch Public Hospitat Chapel. An address was given by Dr. Sutherland on hospital worK in the Punjab. India. Dr. L. C. L Averill read the lesson. The conference will be continued to-day, and an address will be given this evening by Miss J. wno represented New Zealand at the international conference of nurses m England last year.
