The Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister for Internal Affairs, accompanied by Mrs Parry, left Auckland by the Awatea yesterday afternoon for Sydney. Mr Parry will represent the New Zealand Government at the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary celebrations in Australia. Mr C. J. Pugsley arrived from Wellingtonyesterday. Dr. D. McK. Dickson returned to Christchurch yesterday from the south. Mr H. J. Thornton, secretary of the Nelson Education Board, has been awarded a travelling scholarship by the Carnegie Corporation, New York, to study educational administration overseas. Mr Thornton will leave New Zealand in March. After visiting Australia, he will travel to England, France, the United States, and Canada. The scope of his investigations will include centralisation and decentralisation of administration, teachers’ salaries, school staffing and schedules, school buildings and grounds, school furniture and equipment, rural education, and visual education. Mr Thornton, who has a wide reputation as an efficient administrator, was formerly assistant secretary to the Wanganui Education Board, and secretary to the Taranaki board.—Press Association.
