Mrs J. H. Hall (Papanui road), who has been visiting Rotorua, will return to Christchurch this morning. Mr and Mrs C. V. Quigley (Fendalton) have returned to Christchurch from a motor tour of the Southern Lakes Districts. Miss Margaret McCallum (Wellington), who has been the guest of her aunt, Mrs F. Webster (St. Albans), will leave to-morrow for Motueka to visit her sister, Mrs J. Lewis. Mrs Walker and Miss Doris Walker (Junction road, Hornby) are spending a month's holiday at Waikuku Beach. Mr and Mrs Howard Savill (England) are visiting MV and Mrs F. J. Savill, St. Helens station, Hanmer Springs. Mr and Mrs H. R. Williams and family (formerly of Auckland) are visiting Christchurch on their way to Invercargill, where they will make their home. They are the guests of Mr and Mrs F. W. Hobbs, Papanui road. Mrs James Ritchie (Cheviot) and Mrs A. P. Boyle (Amberley) will be visitors to Timaru for the SavillOrbell wedding next Wednesday. Miss Patricia Powrie (Cashmere Hills) will visit Timaru next week for the Savill-Orbell wedding, at which she will be a bridesmaid. Miss Mary Thomas (Wanganui) is the guest of Mrs F. W. Hobbs, Papanui road. Miss Antoinette Wilder (Hawke's Bay) will visit Timaru next week for Miss Sylvia Orbell's wedding, at which she will be a bridesmaid. Miss Anita Bridge, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs Ralph Taylor, Remuera, has returned home. Miss Joyce Hinchey (Invercargill) will arrive in Timaru to-mor-row to visit Mrs Robert Holdgate. Mrs S. S. Lee (Toronto) arrived in Auckland this week by the Niagara for a visit of about two months. She will visit Christchurch and hopes to tour in the North and South Islands and visit Rotorua. Mrs Lee is a member of the Canadian Club, an organisation of Canadian women which has as its guests from time to time outstanding speakers from different parts of the world.

The Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, and her daughter, Lady Winefride Fitzalan-Howard, who have been visiting New Zealand, will leave Auckland by the Rangitane to-mor-row on their return to England. They will be accompanied by Miss Jean Drummond, daughter of RearAdmiral the Hon. E. R. Drummond. Mrs M. E. Rowntree and Miss P. Nisbet (Belfast) have returned from a holiday spent in Wellington. Jowett (Worcester street) have returned home after spending three weeks' holiday at Peel Forest and Timaru. Mr and Mrs W. J. le Cren (Murray place) have returned from a holiday spent in Timaru. McKenzie (Akaroa) have returned from a holiday visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Lindsay Ower (Cashmere) are staying at their house, "Primrose Cottage," Beach road, Akaroa. Dr. and Mrs J. N. Landreth (Christchurch) are their guests. Ir and Mrs E. Coleman and their daughter have returned to Burnham after spending a holiday with relatives in South Canterbury and Lyttelton. Mr and Mrs E. V. Smith, accompanied by Misses Alma and Ivy Smith (Dunedin), were visitors to Akaroa for the wedding of their daughter, Miss Doris Smith, to Mr Rex Davis. Miss Alma Watoelin (Christchurch), who has returned from a holiday spent at Napier, is now visiting her parents at Duvauchelle Bay. Mrs M. McKenzie (North Auckland), accompanied by Mrs P. Todd, has been visiting her daughter, Mrs W. R. Bartle, the Manse, Akaroa. Miss Phyllis Narbey (Otaki) and Miss Joyce Narbey (Auckland) are visiting their parents, Mr and Mrs C. C. Narbey, Akaroa. Miss Carmen Leverd (Tahiti) is visiting Mrs Gordon Kearney, Akaroa. Mr and Mrs A. At the annual meeting yesterday of the Senate of the University of New Zealand, the Chancellor, the Hon. J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., extended a special welcome to Dr. Sylvia Chapman, of Wellington, who has the distinction of being the first woman to be appointed to a seat on the Senate. Mrs W. E. Hunt ("Waitoru," Wallacetown) with her children will arrive in Timaru to-day to stay with Miss L. Cartwright. Miss Molly Birch (Dunedin) will arrive to-day at Geraldine, where she will be the guest of Mrs K. H. Hargreaves. Miss Birch is to be a bridesmaid at the wedding of Miss Sylvia Orbell and Mr Brian Savill, which will take place next week in I Timaru. Dr. Marion A. Radcliffe Taylor (Perth, Western Australia) arrived in Dunedin on Wednesday, and is [the guest of Mrs A. C. Hyde. •Mr Colin Gilray, principal of Scotch College, Melbourne, accompanied by Mrs Gilray and Miss Ruth Gilray, is at present visiting Dunedin. Miss Valmai Sundstrum, who has been for a visit to Australia with her father, returned on Wednesday night, and is spending a week in Dunedin before returning to her duties in Lewisham Hospital, Bealey avenue, Christchurch. The wives of visiting members of the New Zealand University Senate will be entertained at morning tea at the Otago Women's Club, Dunedin, to-day. Mr and Mrs Fred Kitchingham (Greymouth), and Mr and Mrs Cuthbert Free (Wellington), who spent the holidays camping at D'Urville Island, have returned home. Miss Margaret Hamilton (Papanui road), who has been visiting her aunt, Mrs W. van Asch, Havelock North, has returned home. Her sister, Miss Helen Hamilton, who is the guest of Mrs H. T. Little, Hui Hui, Hawarden, will return home to-day.

VALEDICTORY MR AND MRS C. WITHERS HONOURED Mr and Mrs C. Withers and Miss Pam Withers were entertained at an evening social given in their honour at the Town Hall by many residents of Little River. Mr Withers, who has been stationmaster at Little River for about eight years, has been promoted to a position at ClintonDancing and games and music provided entertainment Songs were sung by Mrs H. Hadfield and tap dances were given by Mr R. Carney. Music for the dancing was played by Mrs F. Pooley, Miss Myrtle Webster, Mrs L. Radford, Messrs H. C. Stuart and W. Chappie. Messrs H. C. Stuart and R. Barclay were masters of ceremonies. Mr H. C. Stuart congratulated Mr Withers on his promotion, and on behalf of the residents presented him with a chiming clock, Mrs Withers with a morocco leather purse, and Miss Withers with a toilet set Mr R.
