WOULD CHAIN OF LIGHT
TOC H CEREMONY The world chain of light ceremony in which members of Toe H take part every year was held in the Toe H rooms in Latimer square evening. The observance marked the twentysecond anniversary of the opening of Talbot House, Popcringh'c, a rest-house for troops out of the work of which Toe H grew. The Rev. O. W. Williams recounted a short history of Toe H from 1915 to the present day, and read a tribute from the Rev. P. B. Clayton, the founder, to the Rev. Fielden Taylor, who, until his recent death, was a prominent worker for the movement. At 9 o’clock came the hour for the “Lighting” in Christchurch, the world chain of light having started in Calcutta on Saturday evening and moved round the world in a westerly direction. Members of each of the units present stood by a minute before the hour, awaiting the word to light their lamps, at which signal the “Ceremony of the Light” began. All members stood in silence for a minute remembering those who gave their lives in the war, and at the conclusion the branch padre, the Rev. E. Davies, led a I “giving of thanks.” Units taking part were the Christchurch branch and Ngati-Awhina Group of Toe H. the • Christchurch branch of the League of Women Helpers. and the Avon and North Christchurch Toe H groups. During the evening a cablegram was received from the founder, the Rev. P. B. Clayton, bidding Christchurch units to send the light forward. A letter was also received from members of the naval unit of Toe H ( Auckland).
