Charged with the theft of a silver fox fur valued at £35, the property of Helen Bannan, Leslie Cecil McCarthy, a labourer, aged 40, who pleaded guilty, was remanded to appear for sentence on December 17. A girl aged 17 who was represented by Mr D. W. Russell, was jointly charged with McCarthy with the theft of the fur. She was remanded to appear in the Children’s Court on December 17, a condition being that she remain in the care of the Salvation Army authorities m the meantime. An order was made for the immediate return of the goods stolen. , “The girl is absolutely under the influence of this man —and it is a very bad influence,” said Detective-Ser-geant T. E. Holmes. The complainant —a visitor from Sydney—was dining in a restaurant and had missed her fur. The two accused had been seen leaving the restaurant and the fur had later been recovered in their possession. He asked that McCarthy be remanded for sentence, as there were other matters to be investigated.
