LADIES* GUILDS HOLD GARDEN PARTY

SUCCESSFUL GATHERING AT WOODEND Members of the Woodend, Waikuku, Sefton, and Amberley Ladies’ Guilds held a successful garden party at the home of Mr and Mrs B. J. Archer, “Helmsdale,” Woodend. Stalls stocked by the visiting guilds were well patronised. Afternoon tea was served on the lawn. In a novel sawing competition, four entrants tied, and the final winner was Mrs J. Scott. Mrs C. S. Ayers (Rangiora) and Mrs Archer won a croquet competition, and Miss N. Henderson (Sefton) was the winner in an “Aunt Sally.” Mrs L. Shepherd won a beautiful Christmas cake, guessing the correct weight, between 15 and 16 pounds. There was also a treasure hunt. The Rev, W. S. Neale proposed a vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Archer, and to all who contributed to the success of the gathering. POST-WEDDING DANCE AT WAIAU A happy evening was spent recently by the residents of Waiau in welcoming Mr and Mrs Roxburgh, who were recently married. Dancing was held until supper time. Two rose bouquets made by Mrs Sharpe were presented to Mrs Roxburgh and Mrs Pettigrew by Miss Betty Thompson, after which Mr Belton. for their friends, asked the guests of the evening to accept an envelope and to open the parcels. Presentations were made to Mrs Roxburgh from the combined branches of the Womens Division of the Farmers Union and from the Hockey Club. Mr Sharpe, for the Waiau Collie Club, made a presentation to Mr Roxburgh. The Waiau band played the music, with extras by Misses Oldman and White, and Mr E. Bevan. FANCY DRESS PARTY AT WAIPARA The annual fancy dress party dren, in aid of the Walpara School funds, was held in the Waipara Hall. The programme given by the children included maypole and other folk dances, apd solo items by Edellne Topp (toe dance), June Glennie (Highland fling), and Trevor Conway (tap.dance). Mrs McLachlan was the accompanist. A lucky spot dance was won by Christine Whyte and Norine O’Carroll, and John Forsyth and Barry Hunt won a Monte Carlo dance. . , . , Mr Kilty (chairman) congratulated Mrs McLachlan and Miss Wilson on the way they had trained the children. After supper a dance for adults was held, music being played by Mrs A. Ferguson. with extras by Mr Fritz Seymour. Mr A.
