SEED CERTIFICATION TRIALS
RANGIORA DISTRICT ENTRIES Seed entered in the certification trials to be conducted in the Rangiora district by the Department of Agriculture this season, shows a decrease on the totals for the 1936-37 season, except in the case of Italian ryegrass, a new strain of this variety having, become popular. There is a decline in the popularity of Tuscan wheat, which is being replaced by Cross 7, and a scarcity of perennial ryegrass in the district is responsible for fewer entries of this variety. Entries have been received as follows by the department’s instructor at Rangiora (Mr A. S. Nash), figures for the previous season beuig given for a comparison:—Wheat: 36 growers (46), 739 acres (967). Perennial ryegrass: 22 growers (29), 353 acres (384). Italian ryegrass: Nine growers (7), 98 acres (002). PERSONAL NOTES RANGIORA The Rev. L. McMaster, who is relieving at the Kaiapoi Presbyterian Church, was the preacher at the John Knox Church.
