VICTORIAN FINALS BROMWICH OUTPLAYED BY BUDGE (UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPTEIGHT.) (Received December 12. 9.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, December 12. The Victorian tennis championships resulted: — SINGLES Final J. D. Budge (United States) beat J. Bromwich, 8-6, 6-3, 9-7. WOMEN’S SINGLES Final Miss Bundy (United States) beat Miss N. Wynne (Victoria), 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. MIXED DOUBLES Final Budge and Miss Bundy beat Gilchrist and Miss Westacott, 6-4, 6-4. A gallery of 10,000 saw Budge outplay Bromwich and reveal glimpses of the form that won the Davis Cup for America. Budge’s impressions of Bromwich were: “He is as clever at making passing shots as anyone I ever played. His service and overhead shots are poor i|or a world class player.” , There was a further surprise m the mixed doubles semi-finals, Gilchrist and Mrs Westacott beating the Americans. Mako and Miss Workman, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. In the other semi-final Budge and Miss Bundy beat Crawford and Miss Coyne, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
