Mrs J. D. Henderson (Halkett) was elected a life member of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association at a meeting yesterday of the general committee. Mrs Sholto Douglas (Riccarton), with her daughter,* will spend the Christmas holidays with her sister, Mrs G. Mathias, Cave. Mrs Henry Wyatt (Knowles street) will spend Christmas at Lake Tekapo. Mrs S. P. Godfrey (Knowles street) will spend the Christmas and New Year holidays at the Grove, Queen Charlotte Sound. Mr and Mrs W, Mackintosh have returned from a visit to the Southern Lakes and have taken up residence at their home in Fairlie. Lady Findlay (Wellington) is visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Squadron Leader and Mrs J. L. Findlay, Sockburn. Lady Nosworthy (Ashburton) was a visitor to Christchurch yesterday for the marriage of her cousin, Miss Joan Cottrell, to Mr F. A. Jarrett. Mrs G. M. Mackenzie (Manchester street) has left for Wellington to see her daughter, Mrs J. H. Hall, off to England at the end of the year. In England, Mrs Hall will join her husband, who was formerly editor of the “Sun,” Christchurch, and of the “Dominion,” and who has now a position in London, Mrs T. Archey (Glenholm Flats, Colombo street north) is leaving by the Rotorua on January 20 for a trip to Britain. Mr and Mrs J. H. L. Hiatt (Idris road) have returned to Christchurch from a seven months’ tour round the world. Mr Hiatt is leaving for a visit to Cheviot. Mr M. V. Vigeveno, Vice-Consul for the Netherlands for Australia and New Zealand, and Mrs Vigeveno (Sydney) are spending a holiday at the Hermitage, Mount Cook. Owing to the indisposition of Mrs C. H. Wagstaff, the opening of “The Press Ship” cot at the Cholmondeley Home, which was to have been held on Saturday, has been postponed. The opening ceremony will take place when Mrs Wagstaff has fully recovered. Miss May Lindsay (Dunedin) is staying with Miss Grace Walker, “Southwood,” Dunsandel. She will be a bridesmaid at the FreemanWalker wedding next week. Mr and Mrs A. R. Stewart, Kew, Melbourne, are spending a week’s holiday at the Hermitage, Mount Cook. Miss Mina Ward, who has been president of the Christchurch branch of the Catholic Women’s League since its inception, and who intends leaving early in the New Year on a visit to Britain, was last I night presented by Miss M. O'Connor, on behalf of league tnembers, with a travelling case. Miss Ann Buckley will be acting president of the branch until the next annual meeting. The prize-winners at the flag 500 drive held last evening in the Young Women’s Christian Association club rooms were Mrs Bell, Mr Cox, and Mrs L. Smith (first prizes), Mr and Mrs R. Browne, and Mrs. A. E. Clarke (second prizes), Mr and Mrs Soanes and Miss Soanes. Mr C. King was master of ceremonies, and he was assisted by Mr C. T. Lascelles and Mr Ward.
