CHRISTCHURCH, CITY OF WEEDS
TO THE EDITOR OP TUB PRESS. Sir,—Christchurch has the name of the Garden City; but any visitor who drives down our suburban streets and sees the grass growing two feet high and thistles and weeds in profusion would naturally think our city a city of weeds. They may think the City Fathers have gone in for the hay-
making business or perhaps better are going to purchase some 100 or 200 municipal cows and allow them to graze in the streets. Something should be done to have the sides of our streets chipped and cleaned up. There arc plenty of good sustenance men who would be glad to be employed on this work. Another good idea during hot weather would be to put flushing taps in our side-channels. Some of these channels carry stagnant water, or the water moves too slowly on account of the flatness of our city. With flushing taps and plenty of water, which we possess, our side-channels could be kept sweet and clean during the hot summer. —Yours, etc., RATEPAYER. December 8, 1937.
