BREAKING, ENTERING, AND THEFT
♦ YOUTH COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, December 8. Bernard Edward Way, aged 19, a truck-driver, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with breaking and entering by day a dwelling at Roseneath, and theft. The evidence of Mrs Painter was that the accused was employed for a few days by her husband, who is a butcher. The shop was in front of the dwelling. Way was dismissed when he did not turn up to work on November 18, She and her husband were away on the night of Saturday, November 20, and on returning found the house in possession of the police. A milk roundsman gave evidence of finding a window open, but on getting no response to his call at the back door, he informed the police. The police linked up the accused with the crime largely by means of finger-prints. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence. A further charge of conversion or a car at Christchurch on June 21 was deferred till he had been dealt with in the Supreme Court, , ,
