OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, December 8.

The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows:

Light to fresh . and , variable winds, with north-easterlies predominating. Weather dull, and in places misty. Some rain probable; but mainly light to moderate. Temperatures mild. Seas slight to moderate.

WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is;—

Light to moderate and variable winds, with east to north predominating. Weather cloudy to overcast, with occasional showers or misty rain. Temperatures mild. Seas slight to moderate.

DOMINION The Dominion forecast is;—

Weather cloudy to overcast, with rain at times in most districts. Temperatures mild, A shallow but extensive depression lies centrally over the Dominion. Pressure is low also over the western Tasman Sea.

Winds —Variable, with westerlies predominating in the north, and elsewhere east to north, force mainly light to moderate, but freshening at times in exposed positions. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rather rough at times on parts of the East Coast and Cook Strait, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Variable winds, with light to moderate northerlies predominating. Seas slight to moderate.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

Light rain fell almost continuously in Christchurch yesterday. There was a light east-north-easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 59.1 degrees.

At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was cloudy and a light south-west wind was blowing. The temperature was 54 degrees. The barometer was steady at 29.80 inches.

IN OTHER PLACES Auckland—Humid, cloudy weather, with occasional light showers, was experienced during the day. The maximum temperature was 72 degrees. The wind was moderate from the north. The barometer pressure fell slowly, with a reading at 5 p.m. of 29.60 in. Wellington—The weather wag overcast. with steady rain clouds low down on the surrounding hills and a gentle south-south-easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 60.0 degrees and the minimum on Tuesday night 53.4 degrees. The barometer reading at 3 p.m. was 29.663 in. NAUTICAL INQUIRY A nautical inquiry into the stranding at Sumner on October 7 of the trawler Muriel will be opened at the Magistrate’s Court. Christchurch, at 10 a.m. to-mor-row. Captain J.
