GERMAN PERSECUTION OF CATHOLICS
* SYMPATHY OF AUSTRIAN BISHOPS (Received December 7, 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, December 6. The Vienna correspondent of “The Times” says that the annual conference of Roman Catholic bishops in Austria sent a message to their German colleagues, saying: “In this time of grave ordeal for the Catholic faith, to which Catholic clergy and Catholics generally in the German Reich are exposed, we Austrian bishops see ourselves impelled to express our deepest sympathy and to say how much we are affected by that which is happening in Germany, where the State is systematically and incessantly proceeding with the use of force to extremes in order to eliminate and repress Christian religion and meet all active resistance with new penalties and persecution.”
