♦ MARINE BAND At the annual meeting of the Lyttelton Marine Band, held in the oandroom, the Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton) presided. The balance-sheet showed that the finances of the band over the last year were satisfactory. During the year the band had played at 14 charitable and other outside functions, according to the annual report. Two former members of the band who were present, Messrs Len. Wendleborne and Arthur Hughes, announced that they would< give medals for solo competitions during the year. It was reported that Mr R. Kennett had also given a medal. It was decided to convey a resolution of thanks to the donors. The following officers were elected: —President, Mr F. E. Sutton; vicepresidents, Messrs A. G. Sinclair, J. D. Sargentina, G. Halliday, W. T. Foster. W. D. Gower, W. T. Lester. J. Whitham, J. T. Norton, T. Firman, R. Cairns, J. Watt, E. S. Morse; conductor, Mr J. Campbell; bandmaster, Mr R. Argyle; secretary, Mr B. Demichelli; assistant-secretary, Mr I. Newton; treasurer, Mr T. Chadwick; librarians, Messrs E. Adams and F. Demichelli; auditors, Messrs W. C. Cleary and R. Sowden. At the conclusion of the business, a social was held. Houses for Harbour Employees Two proposals for assisting in the now difficult task of finding house accommodation for the Lyttelton Harbour Board's employees at Lyttelton were considered at the meeting of the board yesterday. The chairman reported that surveyors had been asked to survey that part of the Time Ball Station site, which contains three roods, three perches, into three building sections fronting on to Reserve terrace, and that architects had been asked to submit a sketch plan and estimate for conversion of the Sailors' Home building into flats. It was decided to call for applications for lease of the Time Ball S'tation sites before making any move in the matter. The second proposal was held over in the meantime.
