TROTTING NOTES

| Reminders Nominations for the inter-Dominion championships will close on Monday next. Nominations for the Greymouth Trotting Club's summer meeting will close on December 14. Nominations for the Ashburton Trotting Club's Boxing Day meeting will close to-day. Lightning: Lady Olive King won the Improvers' Handicap at New Brighton on Saturday in approved style; but it appeared that the finish might have been much closer had Lightning Lady received an opening earlier in the run to the post. When she did get clear she made most of the others look like second-raters, and it is quite evident that she inherits the family speed of her sire, Jack Potts. Lightning Lady's dam is a mare by Peter ChenaUlt, a well-bred son of Peter the Great, imported to New Zealand by Mr J. R. McKenzie in 1929. Procedure in Appeal In the case of an appeal to the New Zealand Trotting Association against a decision of a club, the Rules of Trotting include the following:—"A special meeting of the association shall, if the president of the association so directs, be held within 14 days of an appeal being lodged with the association for the purpose of considering the same. . " This rule is of interest in view of the disqualification of De Soto and his owner and driver last Saturday. The last meeting of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association was held on Friday, and the next is set down for the first week in February. In the meantime, De Soto has been nominated for important events at the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting to be held at Christmas time, and in fairness to all the appeal must be heard before then. Four members constitute a quorum on the Trotting Association, and three are members resident in Christchurch. "the association dismisses the appeal, the next move would possibly be to the New Zealand Trotting Conference, and again, in fairness to the parties concerned, quick action is necessary. In such a case it seems the control of trotting affairs is rather an unwieldy business. Members of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association live in different parts of New Zealand—from Auckland to Invercargill-and travelling expenses are a consideration. The idea suggested some years ago of instituting district committees has in the case under review much to recommend it. In Hospital The Ashburton trainer, L A. Maiaens is in hospital, and on Saturday, at New Brighton, his horses were driven by L. Frost. Southern Chief , Southern Chief in J. J. Kennerteys care showed a return to his best form afthe Porbury Park meeting, whire he Paced"solidly and true to record fast P time. When first trained Southern Chief gave every promise of turnine out a chamipon, but his slow starting robbed him of more than one face. He has gradually settled down and he may develop into a good stake winner. Kennerley has ideas of taking him to Auckland this month, and on such a trip the colt should pay his way Another gelding that may be Snt to Auckland is Willow Wave, a ■Er&K »« s is fast qualifying for a place on the schooling list. Unsound ~,.■■.* Rev Spec, a fine pacer at his best, has been troubled with unsoundness for s?me time past and is not hkelyto be a starter at holiday meetings. The hard tracks have not been in favour 5f unsold horses, and Rey Spec may show his true form later in the season when the tracks become softer. Change of Stables _ Credit Funds, for some time in &. McDermott's stable has been returned to the Ashburton trainer, J. Behrns.

Twin brothers recently applied in r n , Angeles for the annulment of their Arties last December to twm sisters. The brothers alleged that their wives 'had never received final decrees divorcing them from their first husbands, who are also twins.
