The Minister for Lands (the Hon. F. Langstone) left Christchurch by air yesterday morning for Wellington. The Minister, who was accompanied by Mrs Langstone, made an aeroplane trip from Wellington to Gore on Friday, and returned to Christchurch on Saturday. Mr R. McGillivray, superintendent of the fields division of the Department of Agriculture, Christchurch, returned by express tram from the south on Saturday evening. Mr .G. Manning left for the north on Saturday evening on his way to the Workers’ Educational Association’s conference in Auckland, Messrs H. B. Duckworth (president), S. L. Wright (vice-president), H. Lee, and T. Hyde (secretary) will leave for the north to-night to represent the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association at the New Zealand Manufacturers Federation conference. Mr T. H. Langford, No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority, returned from the north on Saturday morning. Bishop West-Watson was a passenger from the north by the steamer express on Saturday morning. The Rev. A. H. Nordmeyer and Messrs Clyde Carr, T. H. McCombs, J. W. Munro, and J. G. Barclay were members of Parliament who arrived from the north on Saturday morning. The following members of the Legislative Council were among the passengers from the north on Saturday morning:—The Hons. J. A. McCullough, T. F. O’Byrne, J. K. Archer, G. R. Hunter, and J. Goodall. Messrs W. Machin and J. E. Manchester arrived from the north on Saturday morning. Messrs C. Kempt, I. Donald, and F. Jacomb will leave,for Wellington this evening to attend a meeting of executives of Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd. Mr C. Morgan Williams, M.P., arrived from the north by the Wahine yesterday morning. Mr G. Bradford was a passenger from the north yesterday morning. Sub-Inspector C. E. Roach, of Wellington, has been promoted to the rank of Inspector of Police, according to an announcement in the Gazette. Mr S. W. Fearn has been appointed to represent the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects on the Board of Trustees of the National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum, according to a notice in the Gazette. Mr E. Parlane was appointed chairman of the Christchurch Tramway Board for the next 12 months at a meeting of the board on Saturday morning. He was nominated by the retiring chairman, Mr G. Manning, whose work over the last 12 months was highly praised by several speakers. A resolution recording appreciation of his services was passed with acclamation. Mr J. Mathison was elected deputychairman in place of Mr Parlane. Messrs Parlane and Mathison briefly returned thanks for their appointments.
