WELCOME RAIN AT RANGIORA
FALL OF MORE THAN ONE INCH BENEFIT TO PASTURES An inch of rain fell at Rangiora in two days before the week-end and has done much to relieve the position brought about by continued dry weather. The rain began on Thursday evening and did not lift until nearly midday on Saturday, most parts of the district benefiting from the fall. Fifty-eight points was recorded up to Friday evening and another 51 points to noon on Saturday, making a total of 1.09 in. This is twice the rainfall for October and November together, which only amounted to 52 points. For the last five months, 5.55 in of rain fell in Rangiora, compared with 14.37 in in the same yeriod of last year. Teams from the North Canterbury Lawn Tennis Sub-Association, which were to have competed in the Town v. Country matches in Christchurch, were advised early that the fixture had been postponed indefinitely. Intermediate and junior grade tennis competition matches were postponed and the series will be played later in the season. One or two matches were played, however, Cust beating Balcaim by 9 sets to 7 in the intermediate grade and Amberley Domain B beating Loburn by 8 sets (86 games) to 8 sets (80 games) in the junior. Two colts rinks from Christchurch. which were to have met rinks from the Rangiora Bowling Club, did not make the trip. Rain also caused the postponement of the annual garden party of the Rangiora branch of the Methodist Women’s Missionary Union, which was to have been held at the home of Mrs M. A. Lane. It will take place next Saturday afternoon.
