SINGAPORE NAVAL BASE
♦ Ready for Active Service COMPLETION OF NEW GRAVING DOCK. ' | (EXITED THES3 ABSOCIATTOS —COPYRIGHT.) j (Received November 23, 9.30 p.m.) \ LONDON, November 28. The "Observer" says that the graving dock at the Singapore naval base will be completed on Tuesday next, after which it will become a fully-equipped part of the British defence works in the Far East. The floating dock at Singapore, the third largest in the world, which is moored off the naval base, has deteriorated because of the humid climate, and this makes the graving dock all the more valuable. The graving dock is 1000 feet long and 130 feet wide, and is able to accommodate two battleships. The naval base is not finished because the shore quarters for the crews of warships have not been built. Other works are contemplated, but the base is ready for active service if needed. Already 1,250,000 tons of oil fuel, sufficient for six months' supply for the China station, are stored there. The total cost of the base is £20,000,000.
