RAILWAY WORKERS' ORGANISATIONS
FORMATION OF SINGLE BODY DENIED
(PBESS ASSOCIATION TBLBGEAM.)
WELLINGTON, November 14.
Described as "grossly misleading," a recent report that a National Council of Railwaymen had been formed, embracing the Railway Officers' Institute, the Engine-Drivers', Firemen, and Cleaners' Association, the Railway Tradesmens' Association, with the door left open for admission of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, has been denied by the last organisation, which, in a statement, says: "The so-called National Council is none other than the old consultative committee set up 10 years ago, but now minus the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants' representatives."
The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants' executive considered that the proposed National Council was only a subterfuge by the officials of the craft unions to delay the formation of one union of railway workers.
