BOXING, CYCLING, AND TIN HARE RACING

COiMPREHENSIVE CARNIVALS FOR ENGLISH PARK

A 440-yard track and £IOOO worth of electrical equipment for tin-hare racing have been prepared at English Park, where new promoters, who have a five years’ lease of the park, are anning to hold carnival attractions in summer months. The first carnival 1 be held on Wednesday night, with a programme of professional boxing, professional and amateur bicycle riding. and liotor-paced cycle riding, running events, and tin-hare racing.

Two other carnivals will be held, one on Saturday, and one a few days later, when similar events will be provided. On Saturday, Clarrie Rayner will fight the winner of next Wednesday’s bout. The introduction of tin-hare greyhound racing to the city is a novelty which is* expected to prove extremely popular. Several weeks have been spent in prenaring English Park for the racing. The equipment is modern and of a type new to the Dominion, and similar to the one at Harold Park, Sydney. No pains have been spared to make the track a first-class racing ground. To add to the interest at the carnivals. the promoters are making negotiations to bring Australian boxers to Christchurch to take part in the bouts.
