TRAIN COLLISION AT AUCKLAND
INQUIRY BEGINS TO-DAY
CONDITION OF INJURED MEN UNCHANGED ITHE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, November 7 The last traces of the head-on collision between two trains near the Parnell over-bridge on Thursday night were removed to-day, when the remainder of the wreckage was moved by a break-down gang. The break-down train, to which was attached a huge steam crane, drew into position on the embankment; and the waggons and equipment which had been lifted clear of the track following the crash were lifted bodily on to trucks and conveyed to the Otahuhu workshops.
An inquiry into the cause of the collision will be opened to-morrow. It will be attended by the Superintendent of Transportation (Mr G. T. Wilson) and-the Locomotive Superintendent (Mr P. R. Angus), who arrived from Wellington on Saturday morning. No change is reported by the hospital authorities in the condition of the two injured shunters who were admitted in a fairly serious condition after the crasn on Thursday night. The injured men are H. Macky, of Newton, who suffered injuries to the hip and groin, and F. E. H. Ongiey, of Point Chevalier, who suffered concussion and a severe cut under the right eye.
