COUNCIL’S ANNUAL MEETING
The value of New Zealand's retain-r in? its association with the Marylebone Cricket Club was emphasised by Mr Arthur Sims, president of the New Zealand Cricket Council, at its annual Meeting last night. Mr Sims said he Personally would be very sorry to see lessening of the ties which bound ”ew Zealand to participation in international cricket with England.
Mr Sims said that he had attended a number of imperial cricket conferjnees, and had been struck by the “toad international outlook on the Jjroe in evidence at those gatherings. if he continued to be a member of the management committee, he • would press for a reduction to that number. The meeting approved the recommendation from the biennial conference for the adoption of the eight-ball over. Oh the motion of the Mana\yatu delegates, the council was recommended to inquire into the possibility of admitting a fifth team into the Plunket Shield competition. Election of Officers
Officers for the year were elected as follows: —President, Mr Arthur Sims; vice-presidents, the presidents of affiliated associations: treasurer, Mr E. R. Caygill; secretary. Mr E. E. Luttrell; auditor, Mr A. E. Byrne; management committee, Messrs D. E. Wanklyn, J. L. Kerr, J. Ramsden, S. G. Lester, H. M. Taylor. Hawke Cup
On the recommendation of delegates representing minor associations, the following conditions governing the Hawke Cup were agreed to:—Cl) That the present system of challenge for the Hawke Cup be retained this year, and that the management committee shall select forthwith, after conference with the minor associations, five teams who shall have the right of challenge for the Hawke Cup. Thereafter the right to challenge shall be fixed by the management committee after the playing of such elimination matches as it shall deem necessary. (2) That after a minor association has held the Hawke Cup foi two complete years in succession, the management committee shall have the right to call upon the holders to travel. (3) That the Putaruru Cricket Association be advised to affiliate with the South Auckland Association.
