FUNERAL

MRS A. F. WRIGHT

Members of the 'legal profession, representatives of many business organisations, and a large gathering of friends, attended the funeral of Mrs A. F. Wright, which left her late residence, “Tirohanga,” Cashmere ftills yesterday morning, for the Sydenham Cemetery. The Rev. Canon A. H. Norris, assisted by the Rev. S. E. Woods, conducted the burial service. Mrs Wright had been actively interested in many branches of social work in Christchurch, especially in the Crippled Children Society, and more particularly in the Plunket Society, and amongst the mourners were many who had been associated with her in her unselfish work for others. CANTERBURY WOMEN’S CLUB

GIFTS FOR CHOLMONDELEY HOME

Each year the Canterbury Women’s Club holds a gift party in the clubrooips, and members bring gifts of books, - toys, games, garments, ahd money to give happiness to the children of the Cholmondeley Memorial Home at Christmas time. The party held yesterday afternoon was most successful, and in addition to the numerous gifts about £7 was received. Mrs Stephen Parr, who had prepared an entertaining musical programme, •welcomed the quests, in the absence of the president. Dr. Jessie Scott. Mrs Derisley Wood, president of the committee of the home, thanked Mrs Parr and members of the club for their gifts and for the practical interest they had always taken in the home. Other members of the Cholmondeley committee present were Mesdames James Maling, J. C. Pairman, Henry Holland Denys Hoare, William Chrystall, and Mrs C. H. Wagstaff (secretary).

HEALTH CAMPS AND NURSING ASSOCIATION BENEFIT

The Health Camp Committee of the Sunlight League and the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association each received a cheque last night for more than £l7, the financial result for a week of “Woolworths Wireless Whoppers” competition. The presentation of the cheques took place at the Studio of 3ZB. Mrs John Montgomery, chairwoman of the Health Camp Committee, thanked Woolworths. Ltd., for their great generosity and the representative of the “Smith Family” for conducting the competition. Mr G. L. Donaldson, on behalf of the Nursing Association, gratefully acknowledged receipt of the cheque.
