MOTOR-CYCLIST’S CLAIM
COLLISION ON ROAD AT DARFIELD
SUPREME COURT ACTION BEGUN
A claim by a motor-cyclist for £2500 general damages for extensive injuries received in a collision with a motortruck and trailer at Darfield was begun in the Supreme Court yesterday before Mr Justice Northcroft and a jury. The plaintiff. Henry Alexander Kay, a farm labourer, of Greendale, was stated in evidence to have been so severely injured—with five separate bone fractures—that when he was first admitted to hospital his chances of recovery were considered poor, and, it was claimed that because of his injuries he had been so disabled as to be made unfit to continue in his work as a teamster or ploughman, Iv y, who was represented by Mr Thomas, with him Mr E. E. tsn o ianu, claimed in addition to the general damages, special damages to cover the cost of medical expenses. Walter The defendant was Arthur Walter Andrews, driver of the truck which Kay’s motor-cyde had coUffied. He was represented by Mr D. w. Rus claimed that the accident, which occurred at the intersection of the Darfield-Burnham road and the Bealey road to Hororata, was ca osod bv the negligence of the defendant.
