WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
HECTOR Mrs Walker presided at the meeting of the Hector Women’s Institute, when arrangements were made for the annual rally at Granity. Mrs Walker was appointed to decorate and arrange the stall. The members of the drama circle were thanked for their gift to the institute’s funds. It was decided to send a contribution to the hospital wireless committee. WAIMANGAROA Mrs Hawes presided at the monthly meeting of the Waimangaros Women’s Institute. The competition: were won as follows:—Home-made toffee, Mrs J. Neighbours 1; something new from something old, Mrs Edge 1 Mrs Lunn 2. Mrs Tinetti, sen., 3; patchwork. Mrs Bradley 1. Mrs Lunn. 2. Mrs Tinetti 3; cuddly toy, Mrs J. Tinetti jun., 1. The evening was spent in guessing competitions. The winner of a cushior was Mrs J. Tinetti, jun. The hostesses were Mesdames Husband and Douthett. ROSS Mrs Peebles presided at the October meeting of the Ross Women’s Institute. A presentation was made to Miss M. O. Cox, who is leaving the district to be married. The competition for the month, the best bloom in the garden, resulted: Miss N. Jones 1, Mrs R. Mason 2. Mrs Pethig, who has just returned from Australia, gave a travel talk. Mrs Peebles conducted community singing, Mrs Collison being the accompanist. Supper was served by Mesdames Upjohn, Blacklow, Robertson, and Miss J. B. Thompson.
