IMPORTATION OF WHEAT
; ♦ HEAVY SHIPMENTS FROM ABROAD 324,970 BUSHELS ON THE WATER Very heavy shipments of wheat are at present being made from Australia to New Zealand. Cargoes afloat total 8700 t0n5—324,970 bushels. The Kauri has just arrived from Geelong with 3000 tons of wheat (112,000 bushels), consigned to New Plymouth and Auckland. The Waitaki is due at Auckland in about a week with 2500 tons (93,300 bushels) from Geelong, and the James Cook will arrive in the Dominion about the same time, with 2750 tons (102,670 bushels). The James Cook’s cargo will be discharged at Auckland and Napier. A small shipment of Canadian wheat 450 tons bushels) is on board the Aorahgi, which is due at Auckland on November 15. The whole of the 8700 tons is nulling wheat; but the consignments for Napier and New Plymouth will b® used as fowl wheat. Meanwhile, the Wheat Committee continues to handle comparatively small quantities of milling wheat harvested this year within, the minion. During October, the committee put through a total of 107,000 bushels, bringing the season’s quota to date up to 5.806,000 bushels, compared with 6,551.000 bushels for the same period last year—a decrease of 745,000 bushels.
