LINWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH
* SILVER JUBILEE The Silver Jubilee celebrations o£ the Linwood Baptist Church started last Sunday, when there were special services held. In the morning a familypew service was conducted by the Rev. N. R. Wood, a former pastor. All services were well attended. In the afternoon a special children’s service was held. At the jubilee tea. congratulatory speeches were given by the Rev. J. Dawson Mad ill (Presbyterian), the Rev J. C. Draper (Methodist), the Rev. E. N. Goring (Spreydon), the Rev. A. R. Wood (Colombo Street), the Rev. F. L. Smart (St. Albans and North Brighton), and Mr J. S. Barnett (Canterbury Auxiliary). Greetings were received from the Hon. J. K. Archer, M.L.C., Mr F. W. Horner (Dominion president of the New Zealand Baptist Union), and the Rev. C. W. Duncumb, and the Rev. A. W. Stuart, former pastors. Brief reminiscences of the church history were given by Miss A. Moon and Mr C. R. N. Mackie on the period 1903-1912 (before the church was properly constituted): Messrs W. T. Jonef and T. Nutlall (1912-1917); Mrs Harrington and Mr J. J. Hayward (19171922); Mr H. T. Falla (1927-1932); Mrs F J. T. Grigg and Mr J. Wykes (19321937), Presentations were made to Mr Falla, in recognition of his 10 years’ service as secretary, and to the Rev. A. Anstice and Mrs Anstice. During the evening, items wore given as follows:—Piano solo, Miss Doreen Jones; solos. Misses Weston and D. Rabey, Messrs W. Bradshaw and C. W. Perry. The music arrangements for tiie jubilee were in the hands of Mr F. J. T. Grigg (choi''master), and Mr W. E. Wilson (organist).
