WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION

c> RUSSELL’S FLAT At the monthly meeting of the Russell’s Flat branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, held at the home of Mrs Wason, Mrs Palmer presided. Mrs P. Merry gave a very interesting and instructive demonstration on the making of Christmas gifts and thrift articles. A letter of acknowledgment from the Nurse Maude Association was read, thanking the members for the quilt made from wool-stuffed peggy squares. The hostesses were Mesdames W. Black and F. Scott. Competitions resulted as follows: Seniors—Home-made soap: Mrs Palmer 1, Mrs Maber 2, Mrs Wason 3. Potted meat: Mrs Palmer 1, Mrs Wason 2, Mrs Maber 3. Best bloom: Mrs Clark 1, Mrs Palmer' 2. Mrs Wason 3. Juniors—Handkerchief made from salt bag: Miss I. Hawkins 1 and 3. Miss Shannon 2. Sponge sandwich: Miss M. Shannon 1, Miss I. Hawkins 2. Best bloom; Miss M. Shannon 1 and 3, Miss I. Hawkins 2.

; DIAMOND HARBOUR-PURAU The monthly meeting of the Diamond Harbour-Purau branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held at Godley House, Diamond Harbour, with Mrs J. Hunter presiding. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of t"® late Mrs Godfrey. During the afternoon a presentation made to Mrs S. Winny, who will shortly leave the district to live in Wellington. Miss E. Isherwood gave an interesting talk on Western Australia. Competition winners were: Floral Mt, Miss D. Gardiner 1, Miss R. Garjjhcr 2; best bloom. Mrs J. Hunter 1, Misses D. and R. Gardiner (equal) 2; *pOnge roll, Mrs D. Manson 1, Mrs /“tmir Gardiner 2. A cup for most Ptots in competitions was won by luiss D. Gardiner. Hostesses for the SJtOrnoon were Mesdames S. Winny, D. Wood, and W. Agar.
