LAWN TENNIS

GAMES AT WILDING PARK i INTER-CLUB COMPETITIONS BEGINNING OF SEASON ON SATURDAY The tennis season began with the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's interclub competitions on Saturday, most of the games being played at Wilding Park on the hard courts. One of the senior mixed matches, Sumner v. Cathedral, was postponed till next Saturday, and two others, Cashmere v. Elmwood and Waimairi v. Opawa, were played at Cashmere and Opawa, so that, with the lack of seniors, the standard at Wilding Park was not impressive. Many of the players in the different grades showed by their games that they had been practising consistently, and this helped to add interest to some of the matches, though the earliness of the season told on the majority. Conditions were mild, the courts being sheltered from what would have been a troublesome wind. Results of games at Wilding Park, with other results where available, were:— SENIOR MIXED Avonside v.
