ST. JOHN AMBULANCE At a meeting of the committee of the Lyttelton sub-centre of the St. John Ambulance, the following additional officers were elected: Treasurer, Mr A. K. Dyne; secretary, Mr C. Ellis; motoradviser, Mr J. Geddes: auditor, Mr G. C. Taylor. Golf A further round for the Clow trophy, played at Dismond Harbour during the week-end, was won by Mrs W. C. Cleary. In the final of the women's championship, Mrs E. Cooper beat Miss W. White-Parsons, 6 and 5. A mixed foursome for the Collins Memorial Cup resulted in a tie between D. Gower and Miss A. McAuliffe and G. Cooper and Mrs D. Gower. Tennis Season Opened The Diamond Harbour Tennis Club opened its season on Saturday afternoon with an attendance of about 100 members and visitors. In welcoming those present, the president, Mr F. Cartwright, mentioned that the club was in a prosperous state, with a credit of «£SO in hand. Since 1928 the club had spent £6OO on the courts and pavilion. The present membership was 82. The season was declared open by the Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton), who congratulated the club on the progress made. The courts were regarded as one of the best assets in Diamond Harbour. ' A doubles tournament was played, the winners being L. Sharr and Miss M. Maxwell. Proposed Hall For Diamond Harbour A meeting of residents of the Diamond Harbour district, held on Saturday night, decided to proceed viiVo a proposal for the erection of a public hall at Diamond Harbour. The meeting was convened by the Diamond Harbour-Purau Garden Circle, and Mr IT. H. H. Gardiner presided over a large attendance. Various speakers discussed the necessity of a hall, for meetings, dances and shows. Mr F. Cartwright said that a suitable hall could not be built for less than tIOOO, but other speakers expressed the opinion that a hall could be built for less. The Lyttelton Borough Ccuncil had promised to give a site. It was decided that it would be easier to fliance the project if a site were purchased outright from the council for a nominal sum.
