Many competitors had difficulty in mastering the new single arm slings as required by the National Rifle Association. Wharton Riflemen throughout New Zealand will deeply regret the death in Christchurch recently of Mr W. S. Wharton. Mr Wharton was president of the Christchurch Miniature Rifle Association since its inception in 1914 until his death. He was secretary-treasurer of the Christchurch Defence Club for many years, also president of the South Island Rifle Association and deputy-president of the Canterbury Rifle Association. On numerous occasions Mr Wharton competed in the annual prize meetings of the National Rifle Association.
