GREY MAIN SCHOOL COMMITTEE The questionnaire sent to parents, asking their opinion as to the length of the lunch' hour, had not been satisfactory, and it had been decided to send out another, said Mr M. K. B. Sheard at the monthly meeting of the Grey Main School Committee on Thursday evening. Mr A. E. Morgan presided. Mr Sheard said that the majority of those who had replied to the questionnaire were in favour of an hour for lunch, but when the new question papers were returned it would be possible to decide definitely. HOKITIKA RETURNED SOLDIERS PRESIDENT RESIGNS AT MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the executive of the Hokitika-Westland Returned Soldiers' Association was held recently. Mr W. E. Brown (president) presided. It was decided to send a letter to the local volunteer corps expressing regret, through a misunderstanding, of the non-attendance at the opening shoot on the rifle range. Mr F. McGregor reported that there were no former soldier patients in the Westland Hospital at present. The president reported that when in Wellington recently he interviewed the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association president regarding a visit to this district by headquarters officers, and he had received an assurance that a' visit would be made soon. The Hokitjka branch of the Red Cross Society appealed for assistance to its funds. It was decided to grant £1 Is. The Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association wrote requesting an order for the supply of poppies for next year. The secretary was instructed to order the usual number. Headquarters advised that Hokitika was at present fourteenth on the membership ladder with a membership of 266. The total figures were 16,530. The Canteen Funds allocation for the month of August was £2. Mr Brown tendered his resignation as president, because of his transfer to Nelson. It was resolved to hold a srnoke concert on Saturday. October 30, to give him a farewell. Messrs Ashley, ChHds, Hart, Miller, and the secretary were appointed a committee to arrange the function. Accounts amounting to £9 14s were passed for payment. It was decided to send letters of sympathy to Messrs E. Stoop and J. Irwin. One new member was elected and the secretary reported that the membership to-day stood at 270. KEATING Reprv-entatives of the various sports bodies in Westport met on Thursday 3 afternoon to bid farewell to Mr F - Keating, who has for many years been i closely, connected with various : branches of sport in the district, and who is leaving for Reefton. Mr C H. Thomas, president of the i Westport Jockey Club, who presided ' presented Mr Keating with a leather • travelling case. He wished Mr Keating success in his new venture and ■ hoped he would continue to take an . interest in Westport, and that he : would also help to cement the strong friendship between Westport and Reefton. Other speakers were Messrs A. G. Colvin, A. Pain, W. Petersen, C. F. Schadick, M O'Dea, J. H. Enright, W Craddock, J. McEnaney, W. T. Slee, A. Phillips, J. J. Gonley, S. Paul, and Dr. P. L. Foote. Mr Keating said he would continue to take an active interest in the Westport sporting bodies with which he was at present associated.
