WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION
HAWARDEN BRANCH A general meeting of the Hawarden branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers Union was held recently. Mrs Sprosen, the president, was in the chair, and there was a large attendance.- The secretary, Mrs Dalzell. read a balance-sheet of the ball held in the public hall, and this was considered very satisfactory. In response to an appeal to help the Makogai lepers, it was decided to collect gifts from members to be sent in time for Christmas. t , . Misses K. Doak and Mason, who had attended the country girls’ educational course, held in Christchurch, gave short talks on how the time was spent. Mrs M. Bethell, of Culverden, the organiser for North Canterbury, gave a very interesting address on the recent conference held in Wellington. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Afternoon tea was served. KAIKOURA BRANCH The Kaikoura branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union held their fifth annual spring flower show in the Drill Hall on Friday. There were more than 300 entries, which included some excellent blooms. Mr G. Lewis, of Christchurch. complimented the exhibitors and said the exhibits would compare very favourably with those at shows in the larger centres. There was a very satisfactory attendance.
