ABSORBING SEMI-FIT WORKERS
SCHEME FOR CHRISTCHURCH DOMAINS BOARD (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, September 17. Arrangements have been made by the Acting-Minister for Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb) and the Christchurch Domains Board for an employment plan which will give work on full time to 40 men for two years. Details have been made available to -Mr T. H. McCombs (Government,: Lyttelton). A subsidy has been made available to the board which will enable the full-time- Employment of 80 semi-fit men, registered, and all eligible unemployed married men, for a period of 12 months on raising plants, trees, and shrubs. The men will be employed in two gangs of 40 each, and each gang will receive 12 months' employment rotated on a scheme of four months on and four months off. The Minister has requested that as far as possible the quota be made up by visibly disabled men, the balance to be recruited from the other semi-fit men on the Christchurch register.
