COUNTY POWER SUPPLY

HEATHCOTE ANP CITY NEGOTIATIONS ANOTHER CONFERENCE SOUGHT The Heathcote County Council was not prepared at its meeting last night to agree to the transfer of the electrical reticulation of the Avon and Bromley ridings to the Christchurch City Council. After a brief discussion in committee, the County Council decided to invite representatives of the City Council to meet it in conference to discuss again the proposal for the transfer of three ridings, the other being Mount Pleasant. When the negotiations were opened some three months ago, the county suggested that the city should take over the reticulation of the whole county, and pay compensation amounting to £16,500 for the Cashmere and Valley ridings, on which there is only a small loan indebtedness. The offer was refused by the City Council, and the County Council then suggested that the Avon, Bromley, and Mount Pleasant ridings be transferred, the city to take over the loan indebtedness on each. This offer was refused by the City Council at its last meeting, and a counter-proposal made to the county was that the Avon and Bromley ridings only should be transferred.
