MISHAP AT BRIGHTON COAL MINE

♦ PART OF PLUMING FALLS INTO SEA WESTPORT, September 17. A mishap occurred at the Brighton coal mine this afternoon, when a casting broke, causing the cable supporting one side of the fluming crossing from the mainland to the island to fall, and throwing a part of the fluming into the sea. A start will be made on the repair work immediately, and it is hoped by the time the 300 tons on the island are shipped, the fluming will be restored to its former position.
