METHVEN GUN CLUB
CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS The Methven Gun Club held its shoot on Saturday afternoon on the Mount Harding racecourse. Before the matches, Mr J. T. Corbitt, president, referred to the loss the club had sustained by the death of Mr S. G. Holmes, who was the club's vice-president. A vote of condolence was carried, members standing in silence. Five matches were competed for during the afternoon, including the club championship and the fifth shoot for the President's Trophy. Shooting conditions were somewhat tricky, a heavy nor'-wester blowing and making the clays travel fast. In spite of this some excellent scores were recorded, particularly in the championship, when five put on the possible of 17 birds and the shoot went on to the tenth round, when L. C. Anderson defeated W. J. Robertson. The third man was S. H. Anderson. W. Holland took the trophy for the best performance of any shooter handicapped in front of 14 yards in club shoots. Tile performance in this match has never been equalled in the club's history. A tie, with 13 breaks each out of 14, between L. C. Anderson and W. M. Holland was the result of the President's Trophy, which is aggregate over the season. Five others broke 12 birds in the match. As a try-out for the championship, a six-bird clay match, all off 16 yards, began the programme. This was for a trophy presented by Mr E. A. Bland with an added sweepstake. The result was:— T. S. Harrison 6, L. C. Anderson 6, W. J. Robertson 6, N. B. Morrow 6, W. Anderson 6, S. H. Anderson 6. J. T. Corbitt G. A. Franks, J. S. McHugh, and A. McLeod each broke five. The shoot-off for the trophy resulted to Ward wininng on the ninth round, when Franks missed. Both shooters had a second life after each missed his sixth bird. W. Anderson went out on the third round. A first-miss-out for the L. C Anderson Trophy resulted finally in a match amongst McLeod, Robertson, and HeHugh. McHugh missed his eleventh bird. leaving McLeod to win from Robertson on the twenty-first round. McLeod put up 21 consecutive first barrels, while Robertson used his second twice. 3otn were good performances.
