UNEMPLOYED IN NEW BRIGHTON
TO TUB EDITOR OY Till:: HlEsSo. Sir.—ln the news section of "The Press" of September 14 the ActingMinister for Labour supplies a statement to the public that his schemej to employ 7000 men with four month* continuous employment has met with complete success. If that is so, we, the unemployed of New Brighton, must live m the land of the forgotten. The Hon. P. C. Webb and the Hon. D G Sullivan may call again to cheer us up, but neither will bring any applause from the large numbers of men and women who listened to their last effusion. I say to them again, "Honour your pledges to those listeners, viz., four months' continuous work for approximately 400 married unemployed. Repeat it to Messrs Bromley and Ross. This work is immediately, not four months hence, and lastly, do not leave the public with the impression that we in New Brighton are unemployablcs." I can assure the lion, gentlemen the canker has set in, and a little over a year hence will be deep-rooted ana virulent. This will take more than a new department or board to combat it.—Yours, etc., 21 MONTHS WAITING. September 14. 1937.
