A CHANGE OF COLOUR
NEW ZEALAND TELEPHONE DIRECTORY The much-used telephone directories of New Zealand will soon present • new appearance. It is becoming id” creasingly important that subscribed should use an up-to-date list, because of the large increases in their numbers. The Post Office is. therefore, adopting- a method of indicating the latest edition at a glance. Commencing with the October issues of the directories (Christchurch and Wanganui) the covers of the whole series will be printed in chocolate and greenEvery directory is brought up to dale and reprinted twice a year, and when the new colour scheme has run through the complete series the department will revert to the familiar red and dark blue ink for a complete edition, alternating between two colour sc h«pes each six months. This is the second change wh:ch M* been made in the appearance of the directories. For some years they were all bound in heavy red paper. which. it was discovered, would release a goo® dye when boiled, and which was consequently in demand for unofficial reasons. This was replaced by a twocolour effect on a strong manila P*P**: A special staff of the General PW* Office is continually engaged in revt*ing and issuing fresh editions of Jp* directories, and they have just dispatched the largest of the series. ***** of Auckland, each copy of whir* which weights lib soz. the whole edj* tion requiring more than 20 tons w Paper. , It requires no fewer than 10 tons W manila paper to provide simply covers of New Zealand’s telcphffl* directories throughout the year.
