CARRIER SHOT AT ASHBURTON
! WIPE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT Albert William Murdoch, a carrier, of 84 Kermode street, Ashburton, was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital early yesterday morning suffering from a bullet wound in his neck. Later in the day his wife - was arrested and was charged with assault, a remand being granted to next week. x Murdoch, whose home is near the Police Station, received the bullet wound about 6.30 a.m. from a .22 rifle which had been left loaded in the washhouse. He was operated on at the hospital and last evening bis condition was reported to be serious. His wife, Ellen Anne Murdoch, was arrested and appeared before Messrs G. Kelly and W. H. Amos, Justices of the Peace, at a sitting of the Magistrate's Cou-t, charged with assaulting Albert William Murdoch so as to cause actual bodily harmOn the application ot Sergeant J. F. Cleary, accused was remanded to September 20, and was released on bail which was fixed at £SO. She was ordered to report to the police daily.
