TIPPING OF RUBBISH AT SPREYDON

APPROVAL OP BURGESSES' ASSOCIATION The opposition of the Spreydon Burgesses' Association to the City Council's scheme for controlled tipping of rubbish in pits in the suburbs has been withdrawn. The decision of the association was conveyed by the secretary (Mr E. Ettrick) in a letter received by the Editor of "The Press" yesterday. Vigorous objections to the council's scheme have been expressed by the Opawa-Hillsborough Burgesses* Association as well, but there has been no change in the attitude of this organisation. The resolution passed by the Spreydon Association withdrawing its opposition was as follows:—"That this association take no action in preventing the City Council from depositing .garbage in ttie Spreydon dump, until a definite nuisance <if ever) has been created." The Mayor (Mr J. W. Beanland) said ,yesterday that the decision was very pleasing. Within a few years the dis-, trict would have a beautiful park on the site of the dump. Trees were to be planted round the tip immediately, to screen it from view while the tipping 1 was being carried out and to provide' beauty and shelter when the park mas established.
