UNION ROWING CLUB
SUCCESSFUL SEASON REVIEWED ANNUAL MEETING HELD A satisfactory position was disclosed in the seventy-third annual report of the Union Rowing Club, which was presented at the annual meeting of members, last night, over which Mr D. Lee presided. There was a large attendance. The club, Mr Lee said, could congratulate itself on the general success attained during the year. The club, too, was very nappy in its supporters, prominent among whom was its patron, Mr F. D. Kesteven, who over a long period of years had made many generous gifts to the club, including a four-oared boat last season. The report and balance-sheet were adopted and the following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr F. D. Kesteven: president, Mr D. Lee; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs W. G. Atack, G. L. Berry, F. L. Booth, W. G. Duggan, G. H. Hobbs, J. L. Stinear, E. S. Velvin; captain, Mr C. A. Cooper; deputycaptain, Mr G. A. Bryson; honorary secretary, Mr G. A. Bryson; honorary treasurer, Mr J. T. Harris; delegates to the Canterbury Rowing Association, Messrs C. A. Cooper and G. H. Hobbs; committee, Messrs C. M. Bunz, M..A. Cullen, B, H. Nicholson. R. W. Smith, A. P. Stubberfteld, K. Serrell; racing committee, Messrs W. G. Atack and C. A. Cooper;,delegate to Sports' Protection Association, Mr F. C. Rogers; honorary auditors, Messrs C. J. Atkinson and A. Duggan. On the motion of Mr Cooper, it was resolved!, "That a nomination fee of 5s for juniors and, 10s for seniors be paid before a new member is elected by the committee, to become part of the subscription when elected." New Zealand Association Criticised On the motion of Mr Atack, it was resolved to protest to the Canterbury Rowing Association against the action of the New Zealand Rowing Association in levying a capitation fee on affiliated clubs and retaining the whole of the money thus raised for its own purposes. Mr Atack questioned the policy of the New Zealand Association in spending its money on sending crews overseas to represent the Dominion, instead of conserving it for fostering rowing within New Zealand The latest proposal was to raise £IOOO for sending an eight-oared crew and a four-oared crew to the next Olympic Games. The sport could not possibly afford that sort of. thing, added Mr Atack, whose remarks were generally endorsed by the meeting. The meeting decided to recommend the committee to hold a club opening day before the official opening of the season. _»_■_____
