LABOUR AND THE UNEMPLOYED
TO TBI EDITDB OT TH» TBESS. Sir,—About a month ago single/unemployed men were notified to register for full-time employment, the ballot for the work to be held in three weeks from that date. Since then no one seems to know when or where we are likely to get these promised jobs, and we still have to try to exist on £1 a week. Could any of the officials give us any particulars in regard to this work? It appears to me that this is some more of Labour's talk but no action.—Yours, etc., WAITING TO SEE. September 7, 1937. [When this letter was referred to him, Mr M. Rcss, the district employment officer, said that 10 single men had started work on September 13, and a further 10 would start to-morrow. The rest of the men would be starting as soon as possible. J
