THE UNDECIDED CHAMPIONSHIP
TO THE EUITOB O* TUB PBBSS. Sir,—lt is most likely that if A. L. Ellis had been entrusted with more of the penalty kicks on Saturday, the Rugby football competition would havo been settled. The two teams now interested have during the two rounds met three times. University has had a victory and two draws, and Old Boys a loss and two draws, so the balance seems to be in favour of the Maroons. Both teams have added much to the interest of the season, and might well share the honours. For a large part of the first spell on Saturday Old Boys were kept in their own territory. The excursion to the south that led to the try is not reported with sufficient exactness. The report says, "Hay was bustled off the ball by the forwards." The fact was Hay had played the ball or had attempted to do so; then, after he had played it, he was charged down by one player and put out of the defence. The rest was easy. When charged, Hay had not possession of the ball. I think a penalty should have been given, not a try.—Yours, etc., ON THE BANK. September 13. 1937.
