ST. ALLANS BRANCH The annual meeting of the St. Albans branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society was held at the home of the president, Mrs A. Chidgey, “Rangi Maru,” Manchester street. Mr A. C. Marks presided over the meeting, and Pastor Crawford gave an address of encouragement to the collectors. The result of the collections for 1937 showed that £46 had been raised, Ihose responsible for the work in the SL. Albans district being Mesdames J. Penny, G. H. Watts, W. Dunlop. Greigg, A. Wren, A. Reid, P. Roberts, J. Reddecliffe, J. McLeod, L. Funnell, J. Curtis, Court, Misses C. Gilbert, M. Roxburgh, A. Ward. C. Lee, R. Gresham, G. Hewitt. Whyte, Morgan, B. Smith, L. Crockei - , Mataira, M. Westbrook, F. Morrish, Orr, and Mr Kirk. The officers for the year were elected as follows:—President, Mrs A. Chidgey; vice-presidents, Mrs G. H. Watts, Mrs J. Penny, and Mrs J. Dunlop; secretary, Miss A. Ward. A piano solo was played by Miss Whyte and afternoon tea was served. FAREWELL PARTY Mrs D. Duske and Miss Naomi Bailey were joint hostesses at an evening party given in honour of Mrs A. J- Thompson, who will shortly leave Kangiora. An enjoyable time was spent with music, competitions, and dancing; items were given by Mrs R. J. Sutton, Misses Rose Horrell, Blanche Smith, Mona Trollope, and Naomi Bailey. Those present were Mesdames A. J. Thompson, D. Hoskin, V. Corbett. R. J. Sutton. N. Newton, A. Halfacre. Misses Rose Horrell, Ruth Smith, Doris Payne, Melva Jamieson, Doris Bruere, Ruth Clark, Blanche Smith. Betty Gulliver, Mona Trollope, and Dorothy Tyler. / PLUNKET SOCIETY RICCARTON SUB-BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Riccarton sub-branch of the Plunkel Society was held in St. Ninian’s Schoolroom. Mrs C. Chilton presided. Nurse Pritchett’s report for work done during August, 1937, was as follows:—Attendance at rooms, 4; visits to homes, 27; 115 adults and 115 babies visited the rooms, and five new cases received attention.
COMING-OF-AGE A pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mr and Mrs E. J. Cusdin. Spreydon, to celebrate the coming of age of their third son, Leo (Bob). The evening was spent in music, games, and dancing. Novelty dances were won by Miss V. Wright and Mr S. Burrowes, and Miss L. McKeown and Mr M. Jenkins. Mr A. Wright and Mr D. Foster were masters of ceremonies. Mr L. Harris proposed the toast of the guest of honour and presented him with the customary gold key. , _ Those pi'esent were Mesdames C. Cusdin, V. Wright, L.
