OBITUARY

MR G. E. PARSONS The death has occurred of Mr George Edmund Parsons, a sheep-far-mer in the Kaikoura district, and a member of a family known throughout Nelson, Marlborough, and Canterbury. Mr Parsons was born in Nelson in 1869, and was a son of Mr and Mrs G. Escourt Parsons. He came to Kaikoura as a young child, and received his early education at the Kaikoura Suburban School. In 1898 ho married Miss Mary A. Redwood, the second daughter of Mr and Mrs Thos. Redwood, of Blenheim. Mr Parsons had a lifelong interest in sheep-fanning. At one time he owned the Parikawa station. Later he was at Awatere, and eventually he took over the Kincaid Downs run at Kaikoura. He was a member of the Kaikoura County Council, from 1897 on, for many years. He belonged to the Kaikoura Agricultural and Pastoral Association from its inception, and was a constant and successful exhibitor. The district racing and trotting clubs also had his support. He was a keen lodge member, and at the time of his installation was the youngest Master in New Zealand in the Masonic Lodge. In the Great War he acted as recruiting officer for the Kaikoura district, carrying out his duties with great keenness. He is survived by his widow and three daughters, Mrs Felix Hailes (Kaikoura), Mrs H. O. Baker (Waiau), and Miss G. Parsons. The Funeral There was a very large number of relatives and friends at his funeral. The Rev. S. Corney officiated at the graveside, assisted by Messrs C. A. Jensen and W. F. Perrin, who read the Masonic funeral service. The pall-bearers‘were Messrs C. A. Jensen, A. S. Robinson, A. Turner, H Austin, H. O. Baker, and W. E. Richardson.
