* THE SPRINGBOKS AT DUNEDIN MATCH AGAINST OTAGO TO-MORROW ti _______, - STRONG TEAM SELECTED (I’Rt.SS HSUcUTHjN I CI.P.ORAH.) | DUNEDIN, September 9. The Springboks arrived at Dunedin this evening to play the thirteenth i match of the New Zealand tour against i Otago on Saturday, They were re--1 ceived informally by the Mayor (the Rev. E. T. Cox i and the president of the Otago Union. Dr. Arnold Perry. [ who played for Otago in the match ' against the 1921 team. The manager, Mr P. Day, said that, his team was thoroughly fit. There r had been no further casualties, and i the players injured early in the tour had made a good recovery. “Invercargill was the turning point of the tour,’’ he said. “The players are very tired, and they will not be sorry to be homeward bound.” There is every indication that conditions will be very much to the Springboks’ liking on Saturday. After a spell of dry weather, Carisbrook is very fast, and a line day is all that is needed to make the tourists feel completely at home. Following arc the teams;--SPRINGBOKS Full-back: C. H. Brand. The South Canterbury Rugby representatives opened the tour of the lower portion of the North Island this afternoon against Hawke's Bay, and were beaten by 14 points to 4, after a ragged exhibition on both sides. Play generally was not up to standard, both sides adopting spoiling tactics which were most effective. The southerners ' possess a promising back line, which revealed good commnation, but lacked thrust. The individual forwards were all earnest workers, with Adkins, Graham, and Stewart outstanding. The Hawke’s Bay backs gave the poorest exhibition this season, lacking all semblance of combination. The forwards 1 did not exert themselves, except for 20 minutes in the second spell, when they made sure of victory. Otherwise they, too. had a day off. South Canterbury led by four points to three at half-time. Ryan, on the wing, kicked a magnificent field goal near the sideline, and Hannigan scored for Hawke’s Bay from a forward rush. After the interval the home forwards improved in the loose, and Jackson battled his way over for an unconverted try. In the closing stages of the game the home team definitely took the upper hand. Herbert scored a splendid try after a 30-yards dash. Bradley converting. Then, just before time, the best movement of the dav resulted in Jackson scoring a try after the ball had ’:oen handled seven times. i TO-MORROW’S MATCHES 'Rugby patrons should see a good afternoon’s sport to-morrow, when two big games will be played at Lancaster Park oval.
